Installing new Cabinet Catalogs / Libraries

What am I doing wrong? Ive read other threads w/o a final answer.

I have downloaded several new cabinet catalogs. They are on my desk top, they are .catom files. I double click on them.. nothing happens. I try to open from the CA menu bar . but it won’t open .catom files.
I have the library browser open.. no progress bar.. no nothing.

Im shocked at something so simple is so difficult to find in a user guide! sigh.

    BeckySue,

I think you are going to the wrong download page. As Lew mentioned .catom files are for X3 and absolutely obsolete!

Obsolete for X4, some may be obsolete in regards to what is available today.
You need to check to be sure. This is one reason why they put the date on them now.

Rick, "ART" has been gone for at least a few years. Chief Architect Inc. is the correct name.

We need current products in the library, old stuff doesn't help us at all. With a date on the library we can see that it is current. These libraries are free with SSA. The Jeld-Wen library has been dumped because Jeld-Wen change nomenclature, etc. The JW library was old and most importantly not correct to what you would buy. JW is supposed to be building a new one? (not holding my breath)

Ben Moore, Sherwin Williams, and others all makes changes and this will help keep the libraries current for us. Not Suspicious at all.

As Lew said, they are charging a annual fee for Chief, with SSA, which includes the library catalogs.

    C. A. - this is not fair !!!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not happy. I had to re-format my computer yesterday as Windows Vista files became corrupt. As I was told that one of the programs I had only worked properly in Windows 7, I decided to load it in lieu of Vista. No problems doing so.
All was well until I tried to load X3 again. Could not work out how to do it. Emailed C.A. help & got the reply that I could not re-load until I paid my SSA dues. I don't want or need SSA. I do want X4 when it is available on DVD with a dongal & am willing to pay the large additional cost for doing so ($ 670 + postage). I now get the feeling that the download method is a sneaky way of making us keep up SSA. I feel that I have "bought a car" & C.A. have "taken away my keys". I assume the only option I have is to pay for SSA, dongal & DVD now & hope it arrives sometime in the near future. I don't think this is right.
    Regards Rob

    Rick:

that user should have kept a backup of the X3 install

with a backup SSA would never be needed again

if no backup was kept then CA sells the install DVD for $15 + S/h

I don't see where the problem is ???

with each new release I buy the DVD even tho I don't really need to
I just like to have them - just in case
