What is DWG Direct Error
I'm trying to export a plan file to DWG. whenever I click save, I get an error message "DWG Direct Library Error: Unknown Error" What does this mean? It then only exports 3 layers which are mainly layers I have created.
I tried to zip it and post it but too bigLast edited by luckyudesign; 06-09-2010 at 04:22 PM.

Interesting.
Try making a CAD detail from your plan view first... and then export that.
My guess is that the extra step in converting from Chief to a .dwg will make the export go smoother.Val

Val,
I tried to make a cad detail from plan view and got the same message. Anybody have an idea what it could be?
Would someone be willing to let me email it to them and see what it does for you? I really need to email the DWG to someone this eve but have no way to need to get it exported first.

Not sure if I can help...but this is interesting....
It then only exports 3 layers which are mainly layers I have created.
Also...why are non of the other layers showing up?
When it goes from a plan view to a CAD detail, is there a way to see what layers are available if any (other than the three you created)?Val

Val,
You did help! The only thing it was exporting was a layer that I had created and moved the wheelchair symbol too (from the chief road markings library) and fences. Well, I narrowed it down to it hanging up on the fence layer (which is a default layer) So, turn it off and everything worked.
Thankyou

You're welcome Les. That's good news.
If ever I get stuck with a program quirk, it always helps to go back and retrace one's steps.
As a last resort I was thinking that you could dig out an archive plan and try to export from that.
Have a great day.Val

Val,
Please send your plan along with steps to reproduce into Tech Support. We use a library called DWGDirect for reading and writing DWG files. The error you are getting means something has gone wrong inside this library. If we have an example case such as yours, we can often identify the problem and fix it in a newer version of Chief. I'd like to dig into it, but need the .plan file and an explanation of what you did.Chris Tenbrink

Hi Dan and Chris,
I think you had intended to send the request to Les.
Somehow my Forrest Gump methodology of curing his troubles seems to have worked.
And knock on wood, my X2 is doing just great!
Thanks for the interest in seeing what may have happened.Val
