    Under Stairway Storage Bug

I have a switchback stairway that has a closet beneath it.

There's no problem with the interior door from the entry. It cuts thru the wall both on the entry side and the closet side. However, there's another space under the landing and the lower run of stairs that has a 48" high door thru the exterior wall. This door appears correct from the exterior but the drywall appears to go across the interior side of the opening. I normally don't do 3D Views of such spaces but I don't understand why this is happening.

I recall having issues trying to do a door under a landing as well. But like you said, you don't usually need to see it so I just moved on on that one too.

    Ahhh....

It's the landing that's showing as a surface. We naturally assume that a landing is just the thickness of the framing but Chief actually makes a secondary box from the floor up to the bottom of the landing. In reality, that box shape shouldn't exist. It's kind of like an exterior soffit - it's there if you want it or not.

    Hmmm....

I wonder if defining the landing area as a 2nd floor room with a lower floor level would work?

    Is Open Underneath checked?

The only difference between the two staircases in this picture is that one has been marked as open underneath and the other has not. If a stair is not marked as open underneath Chief will create additional surfaces to box in the stairway, including the landing that is attached to it.

    Thanks Dermot.

It seems strange though that Chief would do this when there is an adjacent wall - or in my case 3 adjacent walls. It seems Chief should know better than to do this.

Scott, I did have my own walls. I then put a landing in the "U" formed by my 3 exterior walls - Chief added surfaces below the landing where the landing contacted those walls. The Stair runs did not have that problem - it's a bug. The Stair Runs work correctly but the Landing doesn't.
