Terrain for a walkout

More of a tip than a question.
I got this with just 2 elevation regions.
Set the terrain to 0
1 region to -40
1 to -112
The bottom one took a few tries to line up with the door.
This was much faster and easier than lines.
Now if I can get my renders better

Allen:

very nice.

I have been following the recommendations to only use elevation lines but I will pay more attention to the elevation region tool also,

Do the regions abut or do they overlap any ?

nice work allen. a good find. thanks

i assume then that the 0 elevation is somewhere in the middle of the two regions and the sloped area between is automatically generated.

i typically use the flat region when doing pools on lots that have a grade change to them.

yeah regions are just fine for simple unrealistic grades. Using splines for landscaping, especially for pre-existing conditions, are much more useful and tollerant than points.

i find that using points for grade elevations are much more difficult to use especially when you have retaining walls.

I just added a fill to see it better.
The jog was so the back side would work at the house in the corner..

0 elevation was what Louis recomended to set the terrain at first.
Once you start doing it that way it is much easier..

This is what happens if you add a retaining wall.

Allen:

I can't tell is the one with the retaining wall the same house with the same elevation regions and a retaining wall or is it a different setup ?

If it's different can you post the plan view for that one as well ?

These tips will help me understand how to do "simple" terrain situations until my partner needs to do the more complex. Many times the clients just want to simple simple terrain so they can see what is above ground and what is below, etc.

Your welcome for the tip.
Most of the time it takes me a long time to get terrain right because i don't do it enough.

Lew
It is the same set up with the wall.I wanted to see if it works like Dan's
tutorial..

Okay I was wondering if Walkouts are possible on Home Designer Suite 7.0?

Is this forum even for that program as well? Am I even in the right place??

Home Designer Suite 7.0

While this forum is primarily for Chief, so of the tips and textures can be used with your version.

You will have to "interpret" the tips and methods and filter out what will work for you and what won't.

There are help database articles on the BHG forum that can help with the walkout basement and will probably be more relevant to your version.
