Boxed ceiling

Does anyone know how to make a boxed ceiling. I am new at Chief so i dont know a thing about it.

Most people use either soffits or molding polylines. Do a search.

Boxed ceilings can be configured any way you want. Here is a small example using soffits.

Tommy: Thanks - I guess I would call that a stepped ceiling ... I really haven't heard anyone around here calling them boxed ceilings ... but with lots of people leaving the cities and moving to Idaho, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't run into someone who uses that terminology.

Around these parts, I call it tray ceiling. I have found the quickest way for me to create this is to set your ceiling to the highest point, say 121 1/8", create a room polyline, convert to polyline solid, ht 121 1/8" thickness 12". Then create cad box stepped in 2' (or whatever), convert that one to poly line solid, when the second DBX opens, check "hole in polyline solid". Then, if you want crown, create another cad box and convert to 3d molding polyline and asign a shape.

The first attachment shows that method, the second shows a coffered ceiling using soffits.

Allen: Nice work - I guess I have used that term as well. In your picture on the left, did you know (if you even want to mess with it) that in the Library under wood types, there are usually two different choices for each wood type - one with horizontal grain and one with vertical grain. You can actually fix the grain direction on your windows molding so it is running the proper direction - same goes for cabinets etc.

Curt, good point. I didn't relly pay attention, but yes, my grain on my default windows is definitely running the wrong direction.

Cabinets set as 1" deep. Some are full height, some are smaller
