Vaulted ceiling and soffit

I just ran into an issue I haven't seen before. When I put the 12/12 gable roof on a 50' x 28' single story house with 16' x 4' bump out in the middle of the eave wall (and vaulted ceilings in the center section), the vaulted ceiling of the bump out appeared with the same material as the exterior soffit. I tried fiddling with the roof planes and the gable wall to see if something wasn't connecting, but no luck. It's an interesting affect, but not one that I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?
