Wall alignment to snap grid
I'm not sure when this happend but this is the first time I noticed the change so perhaps it changed in version 10.6a:
When I open a new plan and draw walls with the snap grid active the exterior walls I have been drawing have the interior finish surface aligned with the snap grid.
Before this the exterior face of the main layer would align with the snap grid The Way It Should Be.
Is it just me or can someone confirm this.
For someone at ART: If this was a deliberate change I would like to know why it was changed. The way I see it the way it is working now makes the snap grid useless for the initial layout of walls when starting a new building.
You had it correct and now it's broke.Larry

I use 10.06a and cannot reproduce the problem you describe. My main layer outside aligns to the snap grid as it should.
Did you accidentally draw the exterior walls counterclockwise?

Now you have me wondering what setting could have been changed to modify the way it works. I open a new plan and started drawing walls and the interior aligns with the grid. Not the interior main layer but the interior surface.
I have a 4 foot visible (reference) grid and a 2 foot snap grid set up in my profile plan. What type of grid setup are you using?Larry

Larry & Jason,
Not broke.
Double click a wall to open the Wall Specification dbx.
On the General Tab is a section called Resize About.
This is the setting that determines what part of the wall snaps to the grid. You can change this setting for the currently selected wall and move the wall to snap to the grid as per the setting. When you go back to the wll and have it selected, you don't have to actually move the wall to get it to snap to the grid, just click on one of the move handles and it will jump to the grid.
BUT, once you change this setting, it will also apply to any future wall placements - it becomes the default setting.
This is the setting that I suspect is causing the problems with the "Jello" walls thread on the chief-users group.Last edited by Glenn Woodward; 10-15-2005 at 03:50 PM.

This is one of the reasons, there are others.

Glenn:
Thank you! That was it. I always resize walls about the exterior main layer but yesterday I had a rare case where I changed a wall type and needed hold the interior surface. It just never came up before.
Silly me. I always thought that "Resize About" only applied to resizing a specific wall or changing a wall type. ... or perhaps and is more appropriate.Last edited by Larry Kumpost; 10-15-2005 at 05:06 PM.

Lew,
You are correct.
I should have said:
