First, you need to have the proper language pack installed. (Only available in Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise. Not sure about Win 8. Is part of Vista & XP) Go here...

Next, hope the software you are using supports double-byte character fonts.

Here is info on using Asian double-byte fonts in Photoshop. Not sure about CA or Sketchup, as I have no need.

My bad. Do it in SketchUp using an installed font with Chinese idiographs attached, such as Minion Pro. Select and Copy as Unicode the character using Windows Character Map, then paste into SU 3D text tool.

It has been a while since I have done this, but the basic principle is this.

To create a 3D object you first need an entity to extrude in 3D space. So, for text you create the text and either explode the text into closed polylines, if you happen to have an application that can do that for you, or you copy over the text to create your own lines.

I like the effect that you can get from having a slight angle to the text, as in the text is sloping inward from the bottom to the top. I use TurboCAD Pro Platinum for things like this since it has features that make this fairly easy.

I would suggest to play around with creating closed polylines in CA and converting to Polyline Solids and giving them a thickness that suits your needs. Once you are comfortable with that then try creating the lines you need from basically tracing over the items in question. I have never tried the type of characters you are after, but the process should work the same as other text does. Note: If you want it vertical, such as the for signage, then work in a back clipped camera view.

Hope this is what you were interested in.
