Glenn obviously has a better memory of V10 than me (it's been many many years since I have used that version), so I may not be able to tell you the exact steps but creating a new material should be covered in detail in the Help section of the program. You can find all kinds of texture images online and even seamless texture generators that will give you images suitable for importing as a texture in Chief. There are also many different sources of patterns both within Chief and available online that you can use as part of your material definition.
