Frustrated Newbie - Chimney Question
Hello! Newbie here who just started working with Chief Architect this morning, version X4 Lite and I've run into a seemingly insurmountable problem with a chimney design.
I've completed my building, roof and all but when it came time to work on the chimney stack for the stone fireplace that is attached to the building I discovered that my lite version does not allow for 3D polyline solid modeling... From the tutorials it seems that polyline modeling is the only available function through which I can transition the upper portion of the chimney to a smaller width (say 3.5') from the 9' width that the lower portion of the chimney currently is. I've used the fireplace function to create the hearth & mantel portion of the firplace. Any chance that a more experienced user has a solution to this problem that doesn't entail upgrading to the full version?? Many thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
Are you saying that your version of Chief doesn't include the ability to place a polyline solid in an elevation view which then can be reshaped with the breakline tool to get the look you want? It seems to me that you should have that but ... maybe that is how Chief gets folks to upgrade.Curt Johnson

Welcome to the Forum!
Important post/thread you should read:
How to get good answers when you ask questions
Without the ability to make poly-line solids, you use, as Mark suggested a soffit along with geometric shapes and custom slabs. You get what you pay for but there is always more than just one way to get something done, Premiere just makes it easier and it has more choices-ways to do what is there to be done.

You can also use small rooms stacked on each other with open below as the room designation. THis will allow you to install bi-fold doors on the interior room level changing material to glass and metal frames. Eliminate molding in the room and make the interior walls black or a brick pattern if you want.
You will need to do something for the chimney cap. You could do a flat roof, change material to concrete etc. and put a hole in it.Not sure hwat tools X4 lite has so can't get into real specifics on this.Dennis Gavin CR, CKBR

When I upgraded from 3-D Home Architect, I went to V8 Base, I guess now would be "Lite". It didn't take me too long to figure out that I was missing out on how to do a lot of things. Due to frustrations, I went to full versions.

Diva:
Have been contemplating your problem and have come up with a 3D solution that doesn't look that great in plan view but, what the heck, I tried. All I did was create a wall type that has two layers and they are both brick. I have a little airspace between the chimney and the house wall that isn't too obvious in the 3D full overview image. That could be tweaked as needed. If you haven't come up with something better, you may want to try this approach. You can pick any thickness you want to the brick layers.
