    How to create exteriro support pillars/vertical beams

    Hello,
    Does anyone know how to create exterior support pillars or vertical beams.

    I have attached a picture as to what I am trying to achieve.

    It is basically a 3 story structure, with a 8' bump out on the 2nd/3rd floor with a walkway underneath which needs the pillars to support the above floors.

    Use a slab or a primitive and shape it the size you need.

    Samantha, if you have a little time tomorrow, I could show the the basics of doing this online. It wouldn't take long. Let me know if you're interested. I guess I should say I can show you free of cost incase you're wondering.

    If you do it in plan view, just drag a box using the slab tool about the size you need (it can be changed later). Then double click on it to open it and set it's height to what you need (9ft, etc.).
    Then you can add more small slabs above or below for the base & cap.

    @Gary,
    do you think that concrete slab is best/necessary for this or can I just use wood frame 2' x 2' x 9' tall support?

    There is 2 floors above it is supporting as shown in picture above.. possible 4 floors..

    i guess this is more of an engineering question?

    When you use the slab tool, it can be shaped to any size and can be changed to wood, plastic, glass, any material you want.

    There is no engineering at all in Chief.

    You can build it exactly as it will be structurally and architecturally with the correct materials, etc.
    But it doesn't always pay off time wise, so most of the time when you add the column, you make it represent
    what it will look like, then in a detail section with notes spell out what it is structurally.
