All this computer talk makes me feel I know about design but computers, no way!

I just found out yesterday, that I guess Im in the ballgame. I thought I had a 32 bit system on my Dell XPS 710 but its a 64., 4 Gig of memory and a intell duo processor so I guess Im good to go if Im upgrading.

Again who knows we could be talking about pieces of the new Lexus engine and I wouldnt know. Ask me about latest home trends not computers!

Oh besides house design Im also into cars, so Im good on that topic too if this threads strays.

George thats sweet!!! My two brothers just got two classic cars a 65 Mustang fastback and then a 71 chevelle. the mustang is dark green and the chevelle is like a rootbeer metallic. You should start a thread about your car building, would love to hear more about it!

Don't do that much these days, just to busy. I built the chevelle with my son a few years back, and he still takes it to car shows. Used to race it, until he started a family, and decided that ten thousand dollar motors weren't in the budget. It's blown & injected, does just over 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile, and is FUN to drive.

I'm not that into cars but have always had a V8 as I haul and tow and do like to pass on a hill when I need to

Trying to decide on the amount of memory to put in upgrade. Where am I going to notice the difference (in and out of Chief) depending on the amount of memory used? (I am on a budget!)

depending on cost, I would go with 4 GB on Vista/win 7 and put the extra money into the cpu or video card or save it for a rainy day


if you will be doing lots of mutl-tasking and renders and other heavy duty apps then maybe 6MB or 8 MB

raytraces use cpu ram

you can always add ram later when needed

Are FirePro 3D and Quadro cards recommended over regular cards or is memory size all that matters?

What kind of improvement would FirePro 3D and Quadro cards have over regular cards?

Will X3 or X4 utilize OpenGL 3.2 or stay with 2.1?
