Gary and Allen. You both are very correct in what you're showing. However, If you have one deck sitting directly on top of another (like in my picture), the advanced auto deck won't work for both decks or at least the top deck. I should say it didn't the last time I tried it. I built this deck and trellis all manually. I went a step farther and layered each phase of the framing (trellis and deck posts and concrete, trellis joists, trellis 2x2 ceiling members, 1st deck framing, 1st deck planking, 2nd deck framing, 2nd deck planking). It looked very cool to see the 3d framing in all phases. Framer and client were very impressed. Has anyone tried to use the advance deck framing tool to create the decks where they sit on top of each other like this? Maybe I'm missing something about how to achieve this.

I got it to work by adding floors and adjusting the height for that..
Needs some editing but it works..

What I was asking about was the decking material..If I want framing and post just building the lower one works...You can build framing for the others in the framing DBX .Then the material is what you put..
I added a polyline solid for decking, seems to work good for getting a decking over hang..

    Multiple Directions

Okay, I'm not sure if this is related enough to post in this particular thread, but I can't find anything else related to it.

I'm designing a deck that wraps around 3 walls of a house. I love the advanced deck framing, but when I try to have all the beams parallel to their respective sides and join in a 45 degree joint, Chief wants to run all the joists and beams in the same direction.

the result is one side doing what I want-- joists coming away from the house, beam running parallel to the house; but the sides of the deck continue that way, and I want them to also run in the same fashion relative to their sides.

    Does that make any sense?

I've already tried separating the deck sections with two 45 degree invisible walls, but it doesn't work.

    UGG!

    -J.
