Line weight in layout

I have a design (Ver X1) that was done in 1/4:1. I sent it to print on letter size paper, so therefore I had to deduce the drawing. The line weight was to heavy for the reduced scale. It appears that I will have to make a custom Layer set with reduced line weights. Is this what most have done? And what line weights have you used when reducing? Is there another easier way?

Yes,,, when you send to layout, specify use layout line scaling.
Assuming you have the same line weights set up over there.
