Wall roof junction . . . how to?
A gable wall has a lower bumpout, with a roof built on the bumpout, and Chief builds the gable as an attic wall.
I am unable to get the wall to be cut by the roof in a no-ceiling condition, as I want it.
See the two views of this roof and wall done in Sketchup, and then see the Chief render.
I have tried in plan view to edit the roof planes so they cut through the gable wall, but to no avail.
How can I get the clean look I want?Gene Davis

Gene,
Pull an elevation view and drag the gable down to fit the roof and go on.

Thanks for the reply, Max, but that won't do it. I tried.
I cannot break and reshape the bottom line of the gable wall, and furthermore, it doesn't reach out to the corners on both sides. Grabbing its bottom and pulling it down like a shade is not what I am after.
The bottom of that wall needs to be detailed to match the underside of the bumpout roof.Gene Davis

Here is my Chief V10 file.
In addition to my gable problem, the sidewall of this "dormer" on the L, in plan view, is supposed to go to the floor, but be clipped of siding below the roof. The sidewall on the R is to be cut off by roof.
I am stumped.Gene Davis

Hi
I messed with it some. I think it's better to work without the roof cuts wall at bottom business.
Take a look, you may see something that helps. I edited that wall in elevation,,, slap some corner boards on it to hide those holes

Gene,
As suggested use the break tool - cross section view.

Well, thank you, Ray.
I think I can see what you did, but I'm not sure.
Here's a question. On the gable opposite, the attic wall that Chief generates is now exhibiting strange behavior. See the pic, attached.
That "slice" of material (called "sheetrock") is at an elevation approximately 8'-1 5/8" above the second floor deck. What do you suppose is causing that?
Edit: I found it. Checked the room spec for the upper floor, the ceiling had gone back to the default of 8'-1 1/8". I reset it to the 12" height of the knee from which springs the rafters, and the slice is gone.Last edited by Gene Davis; 11-01-2008 at 08:35 AM.

Tricky one. No trim needed.

The saga continues.
Now, wishing to change one of the large gable's sidewalls to one which bears atop the roof, I doodle the roof plane in plan so it can cut the wall, then specify the wall as "roof plane cuts wall at bottom."
See the pics, attached. A 3D shot taken inside shows the wall, but with some unclean chops and details. Like for example the cutting roof's fascia, even though none is needed at a butt and cut condition like this.
Outside, a 3D view doesn't show the wall there at all!
Furthermore, I cannot get a clean look where that small roof over the bump intersects the ceiling. The ceiling plane of the center large plane wants to come into the room, rather than be cut where its surface intersects the wall surface from above.Gene Davis

This backclipped section view depicts how the underside of the roof projects into the room and yields that "not so clean" inside 3D render view.
That wall above is an attic wall, generated by Chief over a no-ceiling room with height specified as 97.125". Too bad one cannot specify the roof underside to be cut by the wall.
So, what do I do, to get the "clean look" I want? ("Clean look," I guess I have been watching too many training videos. That is the term oft used by the calm cool voice from Chief.)Gene Davis

Gene,
I downloaded the file you posted in order to look at the overall model and to get some idea of what you are trying to do. The evident problems were all easily fixed but with the result of a design that really needs some serious thinking on as far as structural flow.
