Looks to me like the ridge caps there are modeled separately from the roof planes. For the roof planes, you need to research bump maps in rendering. Looks like they just have a really good bump map on your attachment.

I posted one example of what a bump map can do to even a flat, white surface here. See post #161

The ones provided in X1 are actually pretty good, you can make a bump map from these, or you can actually alter the color cast on these in Photoshop. See post #236 on this thread. This is a native Chief texture that I just altered the color cast of in Photoshop.

With a good bump and/or normal map you can get pretty good depth on the tiles. You can see here that I actually modeled the ridge/hip cap tiles as in the example you show. Also note that the angle the light hits it is critical to getting a good depth. Parts of the example you show look pretty good, while other areas still look pretty flat. In my renders, the daylight shot looks kinda flat, but the evening shot shows pretty good depth.

    Hi Bryce!
    your work is great!!!

I have also another question for you:
With the original chief texture there is a .thm file, what is it?

In the photo you post in #236 post, on you roof there is a "semi tubular" with single tile texture, how can i made it?

    thank thank thank!!!!

    Hi Andrea

If you want to reference a post,it's better to past the link to it..
Then people don't have to go look for it.

I am still watching the hedge thread to see how you do..

Hi Andrea. Thanks for the kind words. The roof tile from that photo is just the Chief Bark from the Barrel Tile folder. I opened the JPEG in Photoshop to adjust the color cast and then increased the scale of the custom material in Chief.

Then I took the same image into Crazy Bump to get normal and bump maps that help give it the depth for rendering in Kerkythea.

I am not certain, but I'm guessing the .thm files are database and/or information about making thumbnails of the images for use as materials in Chief. Don't think they're of much use for anything else.

Not sure what you mean. Do you mean the hip and ridge cap tiles I mentioned in my earlier thread? Those were actually modeled as individual objects. I strung them together and got all the angles right in Sketchup and the imported them into Chief.

    Yes i mean exactly that.
So I need sketchup to do a ridge cap like yours..

I think is a work too long for the time remaining to me to finish the work.

Due to the compound taper of the shape, I don't think these can be made in Chief. I could be wrong, seems someone is always thinking of some clever new way to do things in Chief, but I find Sketchup far easier and more intuitive for these kinds of things.

This particular thing is relatively tedious, and you have to have a whole different set (rakes and hips) for each pitch of roof, but once they're made and in the library, nice to have them there in the future.

but if i use a geometric shap in chief, there is a way to change the inclination of the shape?
