Windows Opaque - Render vs Elevation
I always set the glass in windows (and doors) to dark gray.
This works fine for render view in this project but not for an elevation ???

Lew,
The setting that controls window transparency in vector views is 3D...3D Settings...Vector View Options...Opaque Glass From Outside.
It looks like you already have this checked because you have opaque glass on the upper floor.
I think the reason that this setting is not applied to your lower floor glass is that those windows open onto a room (verandah).
You need to define the verandah area as an external room definition or Chief thinks that the windows are internal and won't apply the opaque setting to them.
Try naming the verandah a deck or porch, rebuild f/c.Glenn

Glenn:
I didn't use the opaque setting.
I appy dark grey to each window using the spray can.
I'll check into why the veranda is causing this issue.
I have a window in front doing the same thing but I thnk it is because of the front entry porch ???
This is starting to look like a "bug"

The veranda was already set to "porch".
Some windows in the front are having the same issue and they are not part of a porch or deck ???
Why do they show up fine in render mode but not in elevation ???

Ok, I opened each window not showing dark gray and selected the material tab and then the glass. The dark gray showed, then I clicked ok and ok to close the material dbx and then the window would display dark gray.
This is definitely a bug and I'll send the "buggy" plan into tech support.
I also found that using the eyedropper/spray can would not make the dark gray appear either when in elevation mode ???

Lew,
I think this is related to another thread I posted regarding window transparency.
Chief automatically handles window glass differently than the materials own settings. ie, if you have a default glass material and adjust its properties, Chief will overide these settings because it applies it's own values when the material is set as window glass.
Select a window that you are having the problem with. Open it's dbx and go to the Materials tab, click on Glass.
At the top, does the material say Default: "my glass material".
Now open a window that you are not having a problem with. At the same place, does it just say "my glass material". Note: in this case there is no "Default" wording before the material.Glenn

Glenn:
This seems to be a different problem.
I selected the glass material in a "good" window and a "bad" window and they both listed as "dark gray" ???
Having selected the "bad" window it then "reset" something and now it displays the "dark gray" ???

Lew,
It could still be related to my first suggestion about the external veranda room.
If you placed the windows before naming the veranda, this could be the problem
I don't think a rebuild resets the windows as I first suggested. My memory says that just opening the windows dbx and clicking OK resets the windows to recognise the external room.Glenn

That doesn't explain why some of the front windows were "bad" also ???

Have we solved this and I missed it? It is so random still especially in x3 when using the various artistic techniques. I use Lew's idea of spraying the windows (in grey concrete seems to work) but seem to constantly have certain windows seeing through to the inside.
I suppose its that watercolor views are actually renders and not vectors. I can play more, but I would really like the "opaque glass" button to work for every view end of story.

Rich:
if you are getting random behavior you should send it in to tech support
they never did answer my questions about the front windows, they just closed the ticket
since then I haven't run into the problem, but then work has been very slow

Bump. Tried preferences, specifying panes as grey instead of glass, flipping door opening direction, room def, etc. Occurs with bifold glass doors with vector elevation, just refusing to be opaque so all the indoor stuff is showing - mess! - another glass door and window in the same room are behaving fine.
