Scan Old Drawing
Is it possible to have scanned a 10 year old hand drawn house plan and convert it for use in CA. If so what file format would work best?
Thanks in advance.

Our print shop has a large format scanner which can give you a tiff file or a jpeg.
Either one works fine.
Then you can import the image to Chief ...and start tracing over it.Val

I wouldn't even waste time scanning it. Just redraw it.

I agree, if you have a hardcopy in hand...
You can have it re-drawn in the time it will take you to figure out how to convert a scanned image into CAD lines, and the use CAD-to-Walls in CA, then make all the adjustments and then draw a roof and...geesh, i'm already tired...just draw the house...Matthew

We can scan it to a tiff file for you @ $1.25 per sheet. Shipping is on you. The file can be e-mailed or burned to cd.

For a floor plan of any comlexity, I actually find tracing walls over the image speeds things up quite a bit. Then remove the image and go back in and set all the walls by the dimensions on the plan. Definitely don't bother with CAD to Walls. This can be a good feature for certain circumstances, but not this one.

It would be easier if there was a tool to show the drawing/picture or not..
Layers work, but I would like a one click tool..
Should that be a suggestion?
Or is there one already?.........

Just having it on another layer seems easy enough for me. But when I am done, I usually try and delete it from the file, as a full scan can be memory intensive and if it is in there, showing or not, it still chews up resources ( I think) so I like to just remove it from the file. I have made the mistake of letting several of these pile up in CAD details and it really seemed to slow things down.
