Changing wall materials for JUST ONE SIDE of a house

AAAARRRRGGGHHHH~ The owner wants just the front, first floor elevation to have stone, and the rest of the house to have Hardiboard (siding). When I tried to use the material paintbrush/eyedropper technique, it turns the WHOLE FLOOR to the same material definition. I can't JUST do one face of the building? Then, another user told me to pretend likt the material paintbrush / eyedropper were never invented and to abandon them at all costs if I want to have a happy life with Chief. He suggested creating a new wall, using the brick-4 as a template, and just place that one in. But now, I'm still getting the same thing. Is that fact that I used the eyedropper/ paint can approach first still screwing me up?

Yes, try this thread for some info on this issue:

    http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread....=wall+covering

Bottom line select the offending walls and reset the material back to default.

Then use or create wall definition with the desired material.

Look, just click on the wall you want to change then open the dbx for it, go materials, exterior wall and change the material to something from the library.
This will only change that wall itself.

Andy, that works very well. Just make sure it's a drawing that you won't have to change the materials very often. As, if you try to change the wall type defaults later for lets say the whole house, any wall which you opened & adjusted by 'hand' (via the materials tab) will not change & has keep being done the way you say. I just mention this because I have a plan w/ 20+ wall surfaces & it's a nightmare to change the siding.

Unless someone has a fix for this.

The fix should be to break the room by pulling a wall away from the corner and then reattaching it..
Spray can is great for most things, not walls..

I have had to delete a section of wall because the exterior material would not change. I then replace it by extending a section next to it with the correct materials.

How about just making a copy of the wall type, and changing the material...so you dont have to mess with the material painter...
