X1 library
Hi
I just bought X1 and I have yet to discover what it does. However, I did look at the library and I must say it is rather poor.
I guess there is the option to add to the library , how do you guys deal with this problem?

That's a mighty spendy purchase for a piece of software that you don't know what it does?!

I'm not sure what you mean by "I did look at the library and I must say it is rather poor". Is this because you can't find something you want or is it that the objects that you see are not as detailed as you would like? Or something else?
The library comes with many, many objects but there will always be cases where you can't find something you need. As far as adding things to the library there are a number of ways you can do this.
1. You can download the manufacturer and bonus libraries from the Chief Architect web site. Just hit the online content button at the bottom of the library browser. This is free.
2. You can download additional libraries that other people have posted for sharing. These can be located in lots of different places.
3. You can download 3D content from all sorts of places and import it using the Create Symbol Wizard to create your own symbols for the library.
4. You can save many Chief objects directly to the library. Just take any object that you have customized in a plan and use the Add to Library tool to save it to the library.
5. You can create more complicated and hybrid objects in Chief and then export the 3D model and import it back in using the Create Symbol Wizard.
6. You can purchase additonal symbols from 3rd party symbol developers.Dermot Dempsey

I'd like some help with importing, please
Dear Mr. Dempsey,
I've read your reply to the question of the libraries and importing 2d & 3d material. I just ( 11-19-2007) got X1. I am attemptimg to come up to speed as fast as possible. My wife and I are doing a significant remodel and I want to help both of us see the design and X1 provides that. I am having difficulties importing .dwg files from wolf. We are goimng to use wolf items fior the kitchen. They provide the files on their website. I just found out that sometimes I can fing the item imported on th "0" layer , but it could be anywhere on the page. Once found, I don't know what to do with it. The guide and ref manual are not real helpful here.
Please let me know how to procede.
Peter

"I am having difficulties importing .dwg files from wolf"
I am not familiar with "Wolf" but I will give you some general information to see if this will help. If you have a DWG file, it may contain either 2D CAD data or 3D data (or both).
If you want to import it as 2D data, for things like CAD details, you would use the Import Drawing Wizard. This will end up in your plan as lines and other CAD primitives that can then be edited or grouped together as a CAD block. You can control what layers these primitives are imported to and you should be able to move this data around once it is imported.
If you want to import it as 3D data, in order to use as a symbol object, you would use the Create Symbol Wizard instead. This will typically end up in your plan as a fixture of furniture object. If the DWG file does not have any 3D data in it, you will get an error message when trying to import it.
More information about the Import Drawing Wizard and the Create Symbol Wizard can be found in your reference manual and the training videos.Dermot Dempsey

Nice symbols but this one has 51000 faces alone..After reducing in Accutrans..
Peter, what that means is,it will take a very long time to render if you use their symbols..
What you would be better off doing is using a picture as a material on a solid object...........
