Question about "Make copy of active layerset"

I understand how "Make copy of active layerset" is beneficial when sending a plan to layout since it allows me to make a change to a view on layout without affecting the original layerset, however, can anyone tell me what the downside is if I choose not to make a copy and uncheck this box when sending views to layout?
