Exploding Re-sized Blocks?

I was attempting to insert a tub into a custom-shaped slab. Usually when I do that I draw a hole roughly approximating the shape of the tub. I don't have to be exact since the lip of the tub usually is several inches wide. In a euphoric moment I decided I could use a CAD view of the tub's shape, and convert it into the hole. What I found is it only works if the tub's size has never been modified. If it has, it's more work to resize the block than to just draw the shape I need. Hope that makes sense (I sometimes do weird tub decks)!
