    pencil sketches

Just wondering if anyone has any experience producing pencil style sketches from chief renderings + raytraces
ie replicate the raytrace with shadows etc as if it has been hand drawn in either coloured pencil or gray lead
I've been trying to get somewhere using paint shop pro but the results aren't great to this point
    Thanks zac

Is this what you had in mind?

    Here's how I do it:
    1. Produce a standard Chief rendering
    2. In PhotoStudio, apply the Contour effect, B/W. this leaves a B/W line-type drawing
    3. Save the B/W image as a new file.
    4. In PhotoStudio, combine both original and new images together.

PhotoStudio 5 came free with my $100 scanner. I've never used PSP.

Wow, Louis, those are pretty impressive.

If I ever get more requests for this type of artist work (most of the time I'm just asked to model the house in Chief) it might be time to check out PSP!

Yes... I've seen that picture before.

Darn useful for those goofy planning and approval boards.

I can (and do) do CD-ROMs. I can output as an image file or PDF (this thread we are talking about adding an artist touch to rendering).

    See www.mcqueen-deisgn-nw.com

I do have an HP430 B/W plotter but I only use it to plot incoming so I'm not quite up to speed on all the correct settings for Chief but you might be.

Thanks for the great tip Jason! I'd seen your drawing of that type before and wondered how you did it. I have Photoshop Elements and for those who have that program - this is how I got something similar.

Open a copy of your graphic and go to “Find Edges” under Filter menu, Stylize, Find Edges. Use the default settings. Then go to Enhance menu, Adjust Color, Remove Color. Now you have a BW pencil type sketch. Then open another copy of the original graphic. Create a second layer. Copy the BW "sketch" and put it in that second layer. Then change the opacity of that layer to about 40%. It’s done. Then you can tweak color intensities or whatever, if needed...

It's nice to know Photoshop Elements will do that as well as PSP. If I'd known that yesterday I might have spent my BEST BUY gift card on that. Well there's always Christmas. I did get a new mouse though.
