Hip roof on bay window
Any ideas on how to manually draw a hip room on a bay window? It will end up being 5 roof planes, 2 will be on either side with the base line just being a point where the hip and valley meet. The automatic roof was incorrect. Also i drew the window manually instead of with the bay window tools. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I've been a truss designer for manufacturers for 25 years. Normally a hip with 5 planes over a bay window is called an Arizona Hip, FYI.
If you send me the exact dimensions of your situation I will show you how it's done.

jeffh,
the face of the bay is 3' from the building and the sides are on a 45d angle. the face is 5'1" which makes the overall dimension 11'1". Thanks for your help.

THANKS!! That worked great, except i must be a little off somewhere because from the rendered views my plate is showing through the roof, but a little more work and i'll prob. be able to fix that. Thanks.

actually, it looks like my floor system from the second floor is showing through, is there an easy way to fix that?

You should be able to grab the wall in an elevation view and resize it.
I am going to up-load another drawing of that arizona hip for better clearity. Give me a little bit and I think this new drawing will better explain the hip calcs.Last edited by JEFFH; 03-03-2004 at 05:58 AM.

This drawing should clearify the hip calculations. Good luck!

Great!
I had to hack my way through one of these a few months ago by guess and by gum. I finally got it right but next time I'll know what I'm doing, thanks to you.Douglas Mosman

Heres another way to do the bay roof with consistent pitches. The key is to have the main valley parallell with the bay hip
