Why do forum providers seemingly feel the need to forever be fixing what isn't broken? Yahoo recently unveiled a new design that was not well received - tens of thousands of negative posts - but did they listen? I just gave up and cancelled my account.

    Sigh...

I think it has to do with the same reasoning that makes the supermarket rearrange all the shelves just when you finally figure out where everything is.

I still don't get it Dan - Why?

You have apparently found a solution to a problem that didn't exist, or at least a problem that no one was aware of, and have introduced new potential problems that will not serve your used base in a way that anyone can discern will be better. Why?

The treasure trove of information on this old forum will be available for a year? Then what? It's gone?

Why? What was the thought process? I'm really curious as I simply don't get it.

Well the stated reasons all have to do with making life easier for them - so I guess the folks who actually USE the forum for the forums intended purpose don't matter so much.

And another thing I have noticed with many of the various forum "upgrades" I have encountered is the increasing use of white space for no apparent reason with the result is there is a good deal less information per screen.

This is a good thing how?

I couldn't agree more about the "white space" - a total waste of space! :-)

I'll mention a couple of other things about the new board while I'm here.
How do you delete a post that you have posted?
Why doesn't the "View First Unread" button become available at ALL times when there are unread posts in a thread?

REALLY appreciate your response Dan! I know my words are easy to type but really, it's great to have an explanation and to know you are indeed solving a problem that could jeopardize some part of your business. Thanks for taking the time.

Am I missing something but there appears to be no link on the web page to the new forum. It links to this one then we go through the green box.
I would like to be able to just click a link and have the forum available to read just like now. If I have to log in every time I would not use it as frequently.

You should post that on the new forum

Although I'm not certain ChiefTalk can be compared at the same level as the Library of Alexandria.

Dan, I don't like to use my login information from the digital locker to login to the forum. I don't understand the risk, that's why I'm not comfortable.

You are not logging into the forum you are logging into Chief Architect. Your password never get's transmitted to the forum. Only your email and handle. When you login we redirect the browser to the Chief login site then you get redirected back with credentials. Then the forum server contacts the login server in a process that occurs on a private network to get your user information. It's the safest cutting edge technology available.

If you don't want to use the digital locker login, create a new one with a different email.

OK ... for some reason I am able to access the new forum now. I turned down my security level one notch ... maybe that is what did it?

Went through and read the 4 pages of Q&A top see what I was missing. Now I am trying to figure out what it takes to become a participant on the new forum.

When I click on "Create Account" I am just directed to the new forum's home page ... same goes for when I click on "Sign In". Next, I went to Announcements and clicked on the thread for the new forumn, then I clicked on the "user handle" link but again the new forum's home page opens but I am obviously restricted as a viewer only and have no ability to start a new thread, post on an existing thread, view the forum members by clicking on that tab, etc.

So, what is the secret to getting a user handle, signing in, creating an account (if I need to do that) and be a "functioning" member of the forum. I apparently only have two-weeks to get this sorted out or I am going to get flushed into Lake Coeur d'Alene and be gone forever (not that anyone would miss me ... but I would miss everyone else).

    Help!!!! Thanks.
