Group select p-solids in elevation view?

I made a series of small p-solids in elevation view and decided to eliminate about half of them. I thought I would just "group select" that portion of the p-solids I didn't want and erase them, but I could not group select them. I can go to the plan view and group select them, but I stacked them in elevation so in plan view if I select one I select them all. Shouldn't I be able to group select them in elevation view? It's a real PITA to go to each one and select it to be erased.
