You shouldn't be having those kind of problems with that setup, maybe something in the plan is the culprit. A symbol with a lot of faces can do it. A lot of rounded type railings can also slow things down. A large terrain might also slow it. Try to turn off those things when working on that roof. You can create an annoset to change it very quickly, then back when needed.
