Yes, you can have as many versions of Chief as you want on your system. However, you should remember to keep the Plan & Layout Files for prior versions so that you can open them with those versions. If you carry a Plan forward to X6 then you should save it in the X6 Data Folder to keep it separate from the X5 Data Folder, etc.

I have Chief Architect Premier versions 7-X6 on my PC and Home Designer versions 7-2014 as well, all live happily separate and functional lives as themselves.

You can use it, yes, but it seems that you can no longer D/L x5 after downloading x6! I installed x6 and was having problems, but I needed a sketchup file. All I had was x5 (64b) went to my digital locker and I no longer have any x5 versions, yet was there in the morning (yesterday)
I need to call em up tomorrow and see if I can d/l x5 32bit

yes, for some "silly" reason CA removes the prior version from your digital locker

It would be nice if they would leave it there

for this and many other reasons I have always copied the program files and the library content and just about "everything" else to my hard drives as archives

just in case I ever need them after CA gets rid of them

I wish I knew that before! I have the 6 bit, but not the 32bit.
Also they should warn you about not being able to open the file in the previous version

I am not trying to hijack this thread, but I want to add to it. My intent, and hope I am not stepping outta bounds!

If you had search this forum, its all over the place. You cannot use a plan in a previous version if it was opened and saved in a new version. You need to copy the plan first to preserve the old version. Chief has never hid that fact. Just your bad luck. For what its worth I usually always bring forward a plan between versions. There is some clean-up for new features but all in all it works good and I usually save some time doing it.

We also save a backup copy of your older version plan in the archive folder so you can go back if you accidentally save over the old plan.
