    X6 Custom Back Splash Problem?

Is it meant to fill in under wall cabs? I'm getting this result consistently. Anyone else?

I think I have it solved but doesn't match the behavior of the video I watched.

It looks like the custom backsplash creates a poly line solid that can then be shaped as you'd like but the video shows it automatically filing in under the upper wall cabs and I haven't gotten it to do that yet. Anyone else?

There is no data in the file your posted. I would guess that you have the backsplash turned on under the wall cabinet.

    Larry:

If you specify the backsplash in your wall cabinets defaults, it should work for you when you have placed your base and wall cabinets. It does for me. I do not get any backsplash filling in between spaces between wall cabinets as you are showing in your first post.

I see where I can select "back splash to base below" in the wall cab dbx. Never knew that existed. When I select that I get a very strange 'Z' fighting look.

Here's the plan again, it's just a simple 4 wall box with a couple cabs. Maybe someone can discover why it's not working. Or is it?

If I set backsplash to base below in the wall cab dbx I get this - a generic backslash looks like concrete.

If I then select custom back splash the back splash to base gets unchecked for each wall cab and I get this a poly line slab that can be selected and shaped.

Seems like it might be intended behavior?

I looked at it and it's definitely a mystery to me. Could be a bug on your side. It's not doing that for me, so it got to be a setup problem of some sorts. Although its a couple of seconds to drag that down so its correct.

Thanks for taking the time to look Perry. It is a very small task to get it right, but it's also a bit of a mystery. Tried a couple different set up options but still get the same result.

Merry Christmas and thanks again for the help.

    Larry,

This behavior is strange. I suppose that there's some logic to it but it doesn't make sense to me.

IMO it should work as follows:

    1. The Custom Backsplash should not go behind cabinets but should fill all the wall space not occupied by a normal Backsplash (IOW cover all wall space until it runs into something else such as a cabinet, appliance, floor, ceiling, soffit, or another wall.)
    2. If there's an existing Backsplash (cabinet to countertop below for example) replace it.

It seems that it was working that way in Beta2 except that it was sometimes interrupted by a range that had a back panel which extended above the countertop.

IAE, The Custom Backsplash is essentially a Polyline Solid applied to the wall and doesn't go around outside corners. It can get a bit tricky to control except in the simplest cases.

I think it has something to do with your room def., b/c if I create a new room using OOB settings it works correctly.

It's something with my template file, one I've used for a long long time. It probably has a setting in it, as you suggest, that's causing this. And as you note Joe the custom backsplash goes behind the uppers.

I tried a stock CA template, Colonial or something, and it behaved as it should. Not sure where to look but it will be a little less fun when I really need this feature.

Sounds like you need to copy your template stuff to a new X6 profile template plan. With Every new version I do it

    Here's some clues:

    1. Backsplashes should be set off in the Defaults (both for Base Cabinets and for Wall Cabinets)
    2. If a Custom Backsplash is needed on a wall at the end of a Cabinet you might need to pull the Cabinet away before adding the Backsplash.
    3. There may be other cases where the Backsplash won't generate - it can take a bit of messing with it to get what you want.

One interesting possibility with the Custom Backsplash is editing the thickness and material. You can get some very interesting effects.

Another thing it can be used for is to cover an entire wall - instead of using Wall-Covering. As an Example, you can add a Veneer material to the interior of one wall (of even a portion of a wall) in a room. It will show in Plan at whatever thickness you specify and you don't need to use a different wall type. The only problem is that there's no "fill" so having a different wall type might be appropriate for thicker veneers.
