    Electrical Labels

How do I turn off the GFCI label on an outlet? Pic king "Suppress Label" doesn't do it.

You need to delete the "GFCI Outlet" and replace it with a "regular" one from the library.

    Michael,

    Select the outlet
    Open the dbx
    Label Tab
    Check "Specify Label"
    Delete all the Characters

Optionally, you can turn of the Display of the "Electrical Labels" Layer - but that will turn off all the Electrical Labels.

Or, you can just copy a non GFCI outlet and past it where you want.

Sure - Open the library, Core Catalog, "Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing" folder, "Electrical" folder, "Outlets" folder, "Wall Mounted" (I assumed that - also cabinet mounted if that is the case !), 110V, Then select "Duplex" - Go back to the plan the click where you want to place the outlet.

If you chose "auto place outlets" CA will install a GFCI outlet near sinks in Rooms you have labeled as Bath.

What I would really like to do is to create a symbol without any label at all, but will auto position. Where does Chief keep the electrical blocks. I was hoping I could copy one to create my own.

Never mind. Figured it out. Save the outlet to a custom folder in the library and use that. Then reset the height off the floor.

Joe is on to something there - If you want the labels off then turn off the electrical, labels layer. If the "GFCI outlet" is placed in the plan - I don't think there is a way to make the GFCI designation go away - Thus with labels on - you get Two GFCI callouts.

You can customize the label you want by opening the symbol using the DBX (Chair with Pencil)

OK, I've got the symbol open with DBX and the 2d block . How do I edit the 2D block to not have the label. In other words, can you edit the 2D block?

I don't know how specifically to edit the 2d block associated with the outlet symbol. If you don't want the GFCI designation why not start out with the regular duplex symbol, copy to User library and customize from there?

I have the same problem with recessed cans. I need to get rid of the "R" and can't do it by your method.

For the Recessed Can light you can place the fixture in the plan, open the symbol DBX, go to the 2D tab, click on the Generate Block button. The light will show up in plan view without the "R". You can still edit the Symbol Name when you have the Electrical, Labels layer on.

Michael, place the fixture in the plan. Open it using open symbol, not item. Look and see what the cad block is. Open the cad block management and scroll down to that cad block. Insert it in the plan. Unblock the cad block. Edit it the way you want. Re-block it and name it what you want, if you want, otherwise it will be given a number. Open the symbol again in the plan and reassign the new cad block you made. Done. If you want it to be permanent in you library, copy the Chief symbol to your user library, open it and reassign the new cad block. Now it will maintain that cad block whenever you use it.

There is a sequence to this:

    1. Select one of the Symbols and open the Symbol dbx to find out the name of the 2D Block being used.
    2. Then go to CAD Block Management and "Insert" the CAD Block in your Plan
    3. Explode the Block and delete the text.
    4. Reblock the CAD Block ( It will be listed in CAD Block Management as "Block0" or something like that. Select it there and rename it so you will know what Block you need.
    5. Go back and Select one of the Symbols and assign that 2D Block to it.
    6. Add this modified Symbol to your user Library.
    7. Select any other such Symbol in the Plan and click on the "Replace from Library" Edit Toolbar Icon. Make sure that "Replace all on Floor" is checked and select the Symbol from the user Library.

In the future you will have this modified Symbol in your user Library so you can eliminate steps 1-6.

    Tommy beat me to it.
