One last question - what if your hard drive crashes? Does DB or Drive then fail to see its folder on the hard drive and delete its files on the cloud servers?

Regardless of how these services work a good backup scheme to an independent location should be used.

Didn't someone say that if you delete a file from DB, it instantly deletes it from the cloud in DB, so if you crash and lose the file, is it possible to get it back? Just not sure.

Agreed - I've got Carbonite backing up everything, even my Drive folder.

If you DELETE the file then Windows informs the DropBox application of that action and the DropBox application will soon instruct the DropBox server to delete the file.

If the hard drive fails or your system crashes in some way and the file on your computer is lost, a copy of that file will still be on the DropBox server.

There are various "flavors" of DropBox (each with a different cost) that have more features then the free version. They are worth investigating.

Yeah, I plan on keeping the Carbonite too. Triple protection is still dirt cheap compared to losing critical files.

Even with the free service, DB keeps a copy of deleted files for 30 days.

Larry, thanks for starting this thread, I learned so much.

I have a drop box account, 200 gig at at Fred's suggestion I also signed on for pack rat. I believe pack rat gives me the back up that Doug recommends. Apparently I can go back and get any deleted files.

Thanks, Dave, sounds like a good choice, but still need another backup for sure.

I use SugarSync and had Carbonite previously. Carbonite support told me that their system did not work properly with syncing systems and that I would have to choose one or the other. I chose SugarSync.

Is this something new in the last couple of months? I disabled my Carbonite because of conflicts that I was having. That's why I called Carbonite technical support.

What kind of conflicts Bob? I have both Drive and CArbonite and just started using Drive so haven't noticed any 'conflicts' but am interested in your experience.
