Roof issues using VERY OLD version of Chief...
Hello all - I've been out of the residential/light commercial design business for years, and am now looking at a renovation of an old building last used as a Masonic Lodge/Temple that my wife and I are looking to convert to studio/gallery space on the first floor and a living space on the second... the only software I have to work with at the moment is ChiefArchitect Version 10.
My issue is that I cannot figure out how to create a drawing that'll show the true roofline as outlined in red in the sketch I've attached - and that's just for now. When we're finished I'd like to have the roof be a cathedral and use the collar ties as decorative beams, so I need to figure out how to revise the roof system to update to that as the design progresses...
I know I could probably find some solutions in the archive, but I'm counting on the old-school users - who've been using Chief since the beginning - to help out since I suspect most of the help I'd get at this point would be for versions I have no access to.
By the way, it's not necessarily clear in the sketch, but the building is aprrox. 33' across in the view
Thanks in advance for any/all help!Wayn Goodman

Build the roof with the 7' ceiling height of your top floor. After the roof is built select that room(s) and raise the ceiling height to whatever you want (11'-9"?).

Now, to further complicate the issue, I have two dormers and a vented cupola (this apparently used to be a barn...) as shown in the street view pic - but the dormers don't show in the interior ceiling at all, as can be seen in the interior pic... can someone help me understand how to create the cupola and dormers? Sorry if this seems basic or banal, I just don't have the time to spend running searches right now.
I appreciate all the help!Wayn Goodman

If you want the dormer to show from below , you need to add a Skylite and uncheck skylite to leave a roof hole.

So, if I understood the comment correctly - I'd build the dormer, then add a skylite in the same place as the dormer, edit it's polylines to fit the opening, and uncheck skylite to leave a hole in the roof there?
And, regarding the cupola, can I make a roof hole at the edge - in other words make two roof holes exactly opposite each other and use that as the opening for the cupola?
Thanks!Wayn Goodman

You can also cut the roof planes and drag them back to align with the cupola instead of using a skylight.
