What information do you typically need for these items?

Lot size, Buildable Area, Footprint, 1st Floor Livable, 1st Floor Gross, etc

The new thing around here is pervious vs un-pervious surfaces, conc, driveways, dirt, grass etc. Also lot coverage ,Building vs lot size percentage. One more is the percentage of 2nd floor vs 1st floor, no more mansions. If you want to add a large 2nd floor , you must add to the 1st floor to get that to work out sometimes.

Maybe what you typically show on the CDs [Project data] would be helpful. I'm working on a system that could provide text output including calculations such as Floor Area Ratio, Landscape area, etc. Having a comprehensive set of what everyone needs for their Building/Planning Departments would allow me to customize it to fit almost all cases.

Also, do you need to show Gross vs Livable areas?

Gross (subsets of house and out buildings) vs. Lot sq. ft. as a percentage and all impervious surfaces, i.e. decks, drives and sidewalks.

Here are a couple of simple examples of data derived directly from the Plan - retrieved, calculated and displayed using macros. Please post similar text that you show on your CDs. It will help me develop a comprehensive system.

    Perry,

I assume you mean permeable, not pervious.

I make that mistake all the time, even though I know it to be the case. You want to think the opposite to impervious is "pervious" - but you are right Joe its permeable.

I'll be speaking to a contractor or client and say it, they don't catch it but I do. I just need to program my head to stop saying it that way. Joe, do you have a ruby script I can download to my head?

    Joe:
I do room additions, the majority of the jurisdictions I work in require gross lot coverage as a percentage of the lot area. A few require Floor Area Ratio, generally the sum of all living space.
I generally break out decks and porches, garage, existing living space and proposed new living space as separate lines. From time to time I may be adding new living space below an existing cantilever, so my coverage does not increase as much as my living space does, so the ability to calculate the non coverage increasing floor area would be of occasional use.
I do, very rarely, have to calculate permeable area reduction, but that should come from a compilation of the lot coverage statistics above? And depend on whether decks are permeable?
