You posted as I was amending my post because I realised that wasn't your method and as you say, there are really 3 methods - or maybe more?

Firstly thanks to everyone that has replied to my post.
Your comments have cleared the issue up somewhat and I will try the suggestions.
And yes I was trying to get real life elevation heights so I would not have to calculate them myself. open to human error that way.
