rotate symbol in elevation/section?

OK, so I wanted to make a custom trellis member, so made a symbol of an object I created with the cut end I wanted. Brought it in to my file, can easily rotate in plan view, but I can't rotate in elevation/section view to make it a pitched trellis??

I see I can open the symbol and change its rotation manually - but that can't be the only way to rotate - is it?

OK, so I just verified that I can rotate just about everything else in that view using the rotate handle - are you seriously telling me that I can't rotate an symbol intuitively?

Yes, that's it. CA in it's ultimate wisdom only provides rotate handles for Symbols in the Plan Orientation. You can, in a perspective view select a surface that's in the x/y plane and rotate the symbol. But you can not rotate about any axis except "z".

I have no idea why that's true for Symbols while Primitive Solids can be rotated about all 3 axis. in perspective views.

The short answer is yes.
Maybe you should have created it as a polyline solid in elevation view.
Or rotated it before converting it to a symbol.
