Shelves in Elevation ~ Layout

Shelves (Cabinets > Shelf) in an elevation view sent to layout will not display as dashed, even though a dashed line style is specified. The view sent to layout will reflect line color changes, but not style.

It seems like I should know what the issue is, but can't think of it right now. Anyone have an idea?

I want to display shelving facing the camera as solid, and 90 deg. adjacent shelves as dashed, but can't get dashed to work.

Yes. However, unchecking makes no difference.

Printing directly from Plan View looses the dashed line style as well.

Not that I knew how to fix, but I was playing with it and it seems the line style cannot be edited for any object (I tried several object types) in elevation view. Floor plan is one thing, elevation or section is another. It will map colors and line thickness, but not "style". That's odd.

You can export as image file with the dashed lines...

You are correct. Just tried walls, windows, and a couple others, and no availability to change line style in elevation.
Guess the old polyline will have to suffice.

I guess we don't need to present objects as dashed in elevation/section views.

One other thing you could do is just make a CAD detail from the view - then you have line by line control.

Yeah, this has to be an oversight by CA, otherwise we shouldn't be able to see the dashed lines prior to sending to Layout (if they wanted to mandate that). The fact we get the correct line style before sending to layout tells me they have a little bug/glitch.

Try 3D View Defaults..Options...Surface Edge Lines...Use Layer Settings/Use Object Settings.

Well Dave, we all know how popular I am with the folks at headquarters. I will try to get this fixed, but I can't guarantee it will be done by Monday.

That's an option, but I do not understand why you would want shelves dashed. I am assuming Scott took a section THRU the shelves, wouldn't you want those lines solid? I assume you could use this method for maybe basement walls below grade, and then you would specify the FOUNDATION WALLS as dashed, but even then, parts of the walls will be sticking out of the ground and you would want that portion of the wall to be a solid line.

So if this is an option CA is working on, can anybody think of an example where you would use this feature?

It's a feature! It doesn't need to be logical or useable - after all, someone will figure out a work-around for it.

BTW, is that version X9 ?
