x4 - Placing objects turns off lights in camera view & raytrace.

When I place objects into my plan - (Chief supplied symbols or created by me) lights are turned off if the object is close to the light in plan view. If I move the object the light comes back on. Example is a tray on dining table under a recessed light in the ceiling above. All looks proper in the camera view but the light is off unless I move the tray away from the light. The light data tab shows that the light is turned on wherever the tray is located.

Any ideas how to center my tray under the light?
