...Here is a very simple plan.

In this plan, the eave/gable sub fascia framing is set for 1-1/2" X 5-1/2". If you frame this plan, you will see the eave sub fascia follows the framing rule and will be 5-1/2"......However, the return sub fascia does not follow the same framing rules....It will be 5-1/16", therefore a different soffit elevation.

In Larry's SIMPLE PLAN. I opened a roof plane for specification then closed it. The roof return corrected the elevation problem. This appears to be a bug. - I opened the plan in X6 and it did not display the elevation issue.

Scotts plan did not correct itself until I took out the Flat roof option and the Extend 6" option. It did not correct itself in X6. Clearly there are multiple bugs here.

Drawing roof returns manually is appears to be the solution for cases where it does not currently work.

I will file a bug report on Scott's plan.

I don't know if everyone has tried - but adding frieze board for that area also raises up by the same dimension. Overall those eaves are broken right now.

Is it easier to draw roof returns manually or simply draw soffit manually?

Dan, can you post a screen shot of your elevation issue in X6? Try to capture the whole screen.

I looked at the other plan as well, It appeared correct in X6 also.

I would recommend, if you have or notice problems with auto roof returns to draw them yourself. Once you have one drawn, you can often do a copy reflect to get them in other parts of the plan. Then you have control over all the aspects of each plane.

At the same time, don't be shy about reporting issues to our technical support team. Often we don't see problems here that exist out in the real world. Don't assume we already know about it.

In reviewing my earlier comments I appear to have miss-understood the problem so I apologize if I caused you any frustration.

Just FYI in the Framing tab (of the Roof Plane) changing the dimension on the "Eave Fascia" from 7-1/4 to 9-1/4 makes things line up - not a solution I know - but a clue perhaps.

The position of the soffit on the return seems to be tied to the bottom of the fascia - so the change from 7-1/2 to 9-1/4 drops the return soffit and it lines up with the other soffit.

I cannot determine what is setting the position of the other soffit. Reducing the "Eaves Fascia" to something small like 4-0/0 leaves the soffit floating in space - which would be fun to build.

This is the "Simple Plan" reworked so the return soffit is at the same elevation as the eave soffit. Larry mentioned he doesn't use sub fascia, so this should work in his situation, but not for someone who needs the sub fascia.
