Someone verify this is a bug or "my bad"

I've been having this problem on another thread, but instead of adding to that one I thought I'd start a new thread instead of beating the "dead horse" in my other thread. I opened a brand new plan. Made a small four sided building. Made the two opposite walls full gable and called for 36" hip returns and then built the roof. Shown in the attachments are the setups for my roof specifications. The picture shows the results of the soffits on the returns CA automatically built. The return soffit is not at the same elevation as the eave soffit. Would somebody else do this simple exercise and tell me if they get the same results using my roof specifications? I'll send it into Support if others get the same result, but I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.

Have you tried unchecking Boxed Eave?

Bryce....Yes. When I uncheck boxed eave the soffits are both up inside at the slope of the roof.

On the Wall dialog, Roof tab, "Auto Roof Return" settings: When you select "Flat" the underside seems correct but of course the topside is not what you want. But does this give us a clue?

In any case I could find nothing to correct the problem.

I was trying to follow you to see what you are referring. What I will note is that even before I did anything in the settings to add a boxed eave, there was a "glitch" happening there.

It may not be related, but what I have noticed in Chief is once a problem starts to exist, its carries forward in other ways.

Sure enough - the problem is there. I show in glass to see whats behind. I started today using the glass house feature to see what my mistakes are.

It appears that the soffit material is supposed to 45deg at the corner (as seen on the gable roof return), but the soffit on the main roof isn't at the same height, nor is it even trying to 45 into that corner.

Yeah, its really help me identify what bone-headed mistake I may have made in my model, or in this case see what Chief is "trying" to do - wrongly. Like you, I didn't value that view for presentation purposes, but for a "whats going on behind the scenes" its perfect.

I can't get the return soffit to build as high as yours, but it is a bit higher - it sits on top of the normal eave soffit.

I did this view by unchecking Eave and Gable fascias (Framing tab) and making the Soffit thicker (Options tab).

So everyone is confirming that X5 has a "bug" in there roof returns. In the morning I'll open some earlier versions and see if it existed. I don't ever remember seeing this in earlier versions.

When framed, the sub fascia for the return doesn't frame the same as the eave, 2x6. It comes in smaller and raises the soffit. I normally use 2x4 for the sub fascia and haven't run into this problem.

Cliff.....In this part of the country we rarely use a sub-fascia. I'd say 75% of the contractors just cap a 2X6 with aluminum. If anything, a 1X3 is added to the fascia where gutters are not used to add shadow detail and also to help prevent the aluminum from wrinkling with expansion and contraction.

Heck fire, tried to redo vid with audio, does not work as well as first time, posted vid with audio, auto roof returns are screwed up for me............ it fact I noticed the auto return roof had a different pitch........... ain't worth futzing over for me............. I would build manually.........
