    Raytraces fine on this end.

Could be a none-too-good video card.Click image for larger version.

    tnx for the quick response

I can't really imagine it's a hardware problem since I had my system built to deal with heavy duty graphics (3d creation):

does anyone else have raytrace issues? I've been looking around the web but can't really find anything other than just this question being asked without real answers

hmmm, a quick check of the specs indicates a decent PC

maybe some settings are need changes ???

you will probably need to contact CA's tech support on Tuesday

What version of Chief are you using? X? 32 bit or 64 bit

Video card is not an issue with Ray Traces.

There only things you need to be looking at are:

    Memory

I'm trying out X5 on Windows 7 Home Premium x64

I can run Vue, Poser and Photoshop at the same time without any problem so CPU and RAM are in order.
it's probably just 'some setting, somewhere' that I don't know of

contact CA's tech support on Tuesday
why and how specifically on Tuesday?

(tnx for all the responses by the way )

Are you using the 64 bit version of Chief X5? If you are only using the 32 bit version you won't get access to all of your Memory

The version listed in the dialog indicates that you are running the 32 bit version. Likely the crash is associated with running out of memory.

    you mean the trial version?
I was under the impression it automatically installed the proper version, but further checking it is indeed installed in the x86 directory...

however, I just installed the same trial on my laptop (which is about half as powerfull as my pc), and there the raytrace works with no problem at all. Slow, but still, it renders.
I can't help but think it must be something that's missing on my pc...

maybe I'll just do a clean windows and try again

Go to your digital locker, download and install the 64 bit version. You should have both installed because you need the 32 bit to import SKP files. There's no problem with having both installed.
