How much memory is Chief using?

If the memory usage is going high but Chief is not using the memory then look for the process that is using it.

If Chief is using a lot of memory then it is likely your model that is chewing memory. 3D views can chew up a lot of memory so if you have a lot of them open you may wish to close some of them down to conserve memory.

Another possible place that I see a lot of memory used is if you are loading a lot of very high resolution images, textures or backdrops.

Generally speaking it is unusual for a model to use more than 2-3 GB of memory but it is theoretically possible for a model to use as much memory as you have.

Minimized views don't conserve memory. They need to be closed.

It is also possible that you have run across what we call a memory leak. This is a case where doing a particular operation allocated memory but fails to deallocate it. While these are rare in Chief we do have them from time to time. It would probably be useful for you to contact our support team to work this issue.

From what you describe, it doesn't sound like a hardware problem. It could be a software problem with Chief or some other software, or it could be that your model is using a lot of memory.
