Thanks William. I ended up using one of those 'street lights' as you've shown, mostly as a place marker until i found something a bit more decorative.

I hope this works for you. Free symbol for anyone else to use. Courtesy of AMD Drafting, LLC.
When importing the symbol open advanced options and select it to be a light. The set the default light offset to 8" and your light source will be perfectly centered on the bulb. You can add a pline solid object to it for your post.
I've include the .skp file if anyone want to change it or add to it. Enjoy!Aaron D.
