    nvidia is the recommended choice

while ATI cards can do ok, Nvidia just works better for chief

    fewer issues etc

as for these specific cards ???

not versed in them - can't say

Ok sounds good. Any major differences beween 1GB or 2GB? Or any other factors I should look at? Just wanted to speed up rendering and ray tracing and not get the error of "Not supported graphics card" by stretching every dollar.

    renders use the video card

    raytraces use cpu

CA recommends 1GB+ for video ram - 8 GB+ cpu ram

for cpu CA recommends as many cores as affordable

    go with i7 cpu's

Ok, so what does the render exactly classify as in CA? And it it normal to take this long for the ray trace I'm currently doing. (attached) 15?!?! HOUR

Just stop the ray trace. You have completed over 2800 passes - generally 8-15 passes is as good as it's going to get unless you are trying to do a really dynamite interior. Even then, anything over 50 would be total overkill.

Wow! Beginner mistake I guess. I feel stupid. Thanks for the great help anyways! BTW I'm new to CA, how do people get these final ray traces with the blue sky and trees in the background, making it even more realistic?

Oh! Gotcha, thanks for the help!

Do you have any experience with the NVIDIA GT 610 or 620 2GB graphic cards?

And sorry for so many questions but, how do I keep my plan from "floating"? (attached)

Add some thickness to your terrain. Look in the "Terrain DBX. Then zoom in.,

I ended up purchasing a Radeon 6670 1GB DDR3. Looking to see how it performs.
