    Modern Recessed Light Trough

So another discussion on the board had me thinking of some current modern details I use in homes - I have yet to design a modern home in Chief. I often use light "troughs" recessed into the ceiling, and then place recessed cans (or directional) in those sections - so the ceiling doesn't have can lighting showing. Very popular with the modern homes I've done - and we run them parallel with the trusses or ceiling joists.

My thought was to create an invisible wall in the room and raise the ceiling in that strip +8-10" and place the lighting in there. Is there a better way? Here is an example....
