Floating railings that float above the ground
I have a house who's floor is about 8 inches off the ground. I always set floor as absolute zero height and then set the terrain outside by specifying the pad elevation. No idea if this is the right way of doing it, I never can get my head round how and why CA uses heights/elevations, just keep ticking and unticking boxes (often around slab/room underneath/floor underneath this room, etc DBX) until it magically looks like how I want it.
I am trying to build a garden wall but it is floating in the air by the aforementioned 8 inches. If I make it a railing I can get it to follow the terrain but then the gate in it is floating 8 inches in the air and the fence posts still don't reach the ground and stick out of the top of the wall. Tried using a slab but it won't accept a door (gate). Ideally I wanted to try a curved top to the wall but this seems a long way off when I can't even build a wall on the ground!
Thanks for input/answers.Andy

Just re-read what title I gave this thread! Oh boy, it was late - UK time! And another thing, it was late.

Andy,
Try this:
Use a normal wall and drag the top and bottom down to the heights you want.
Change it to a Solid railing.
Define the Top Rail to have a molding from the library with the curved top shape you want - the 2-90 Handrail might do the job.Glenn

Glenn gave you the correct answer. What I do is go ahead and place you railing wall (fence) and make it as you like. Then select the section that's touching the house>open it and uncheck railing wall. Don't worry about the wall type. Drag the top and bottom to where you want. Now open it again and check railing wall. It will go back to what you had set for the railing wall (fence). If you however move that section again, it could jump again and you'll have to repeat these steps again. Just drag the gate down.
