Problem with 3D Standard View (Vector View OK)

    Hi All
Some of these external walls are supposed to be a copper color, as shown correctly in the Vector View. However, I get a strange triangle effect or just no copper color at all when looked at in Standard View. The external cladding is about 3/4 inch thick solid colored panel (I beefed it up from 3/8th inch to see if that was the problem).
What should I look for to solve this? I'm happy to post the plan if needed.
    Many Thanks

This was very helpful. My video card can handle showing shadows all the time - yet they were off.

Now I am curious how high the settings go with other video cards. If I move around with the shadows on, its maybe just a little bit slower than without shadows (not much) - does anyone have a completely smooth transition (in rotation etc) with everything on full? If so, what video card?

    Ross,

How far is your model from 0,0,0?
If that's not the problem, post the plan.

    Thanks William and Glenn

William, I checked my Video Card driver and it was up to date.
It's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470, with the following specifications:
Total Available Graphics memory = 3770MB
    Dedicated = 1024MB
    Shared System Memory = 2746MB
I realise this is not exactly top of the range, but it doesn't normally give such a problem.

I then adjusted my Render Preferences to match your post, and still no joy.

Glenn, how do I check 0,0,0?
What I tried was to place a temp. point in about the middle of the model, and it gave the following location:
    X Position 2420900mm
    Y Position -273910mm
Now, that sounds a bit out of the way to me, so you might have identified the issue.

What is the way of relocating 0,0,0 to the centre of the model?
I'll have a go at this now...

    Thanks

    Ross,

I'm not sure if this is the correct way, but as a guide, find and place a marker @ 0,0, try selecting the whole model and do a point to point move or
I guess select the whole model and see if it will let you transform/replicate X -2420900 & Y 273910

Shared video ram is usually not good for Chief

it is recommended to have a dedicated video card with 1 GB + of video ram

    Ross,

Sounds like that is the problem.

    Try this:
Edit...Edit Area (All Floors)...Drag a selection window around the whole model.
Open Transform/Replicate... check Move and Absolute Location.
    Make x, y zero...OK.

    Thanks Rod, Lew and Glenn
I successfully moved the model to 0,0....thanks for the advice on how to do it. However the Standard View problem is still there, so I'm posting the plan (in the next post). What I find is that if I select a wall that is playing up, then open it and open "define wall", it sometimes fixes itself but then transfers the display issue to another adjacent wall. Weird.
    Plan following....
    Thanks

    Posted Plan

OK....it took a while to strip the plan down to be under 2MB when zipped..... I'd appreciate it if you could have a look at this plan in both Standard and Vector view (perspective overview) to see if walls of the central part of the building gives any trouble in Standard View. If not, the only thing I can think is that my video card is not up to the job?
    Thanks

    Ross,

I am not having any troubles with the colored walls.
It is not a very complicated model, so unless you have a very basic video card, that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Glenn, I guess it's my video card.

I posted the specs of the video card as follows:

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470
Total Available Graphics memory = 3770MB
    Dedicated = 1024MB
    Shared System Memory = 2746MB
    Driver is up to date.

To date it hasn't given problems, but I may have to upgrade in some way.
    Regards

    Ross,

It would be interesting if any other users running an ATI video card experience the same problem with your plan.

    Ross,

Those numbers are almost exactly the same as mine with a NVidea GTX 285 - which is a pretty old, low end card now, but I am not having any problems with your plan.

Rod, my first response also was to blame the video card.
Glenn, based on your card, maybe the problem lies elsewhere so I'll keep playing with it.
    Thanks
