    Uninstalling older versions

So I'm running out of room on my laptop, so it's time for me to do house cleaning. I want to uninstall all my CA versions back to version 9. Other than bringing forward my personal libraries (which has already been done over the years) any reason why I can't/shouldn't uninstall older versions? Already tried calling SSA support but our $500 per year doesn't pay for tech support on weekends. Wish I didn't have to work weekends.
    Thanks in advance.

There's no reason you can't uninstall. If you want to keep the older versions for future use you can just copy the install programs (assuming you don't have the original disks) to an external drive, zip drive or dvd.

OTOH, I would think that projects and old library items that you don't need anymore probably take up a lot more space.

I have uninstalled all but X5, and there is no problem.

I also needed the disk space.

I do have several older versions on an external hard drive, but
    have not used them.

    Thanks Lew and Jere,
I've migrated and/or opened all drawings from later versions with X5, brought forward all my libraries as I upgraded... so what I need is or has been brought forward so to speak. I just want to make sure X5 isn't still pulling license info of some other hidden who knows what in order to run X5. I'm calling tech support tomorrow to make sure.
Thanks, again for the reply's, Lew...nice to see your still around, it's been awhile since I've been to the forum.

Thanks Joe, I kinda figured as much and yes I have all the disks. Just making sure.
I keep all files not needed to run any software on external drives, It's old software eating me up.
    Thanks,

I never keep older versions of Chief. If a client wants me to do more work on their house ,I tell them I have to re-draw it. It really doesn't take too long. I always want to draw in the current version because it's just better and faster for me. There are always new goodies in the new versions. I just can't go back. Lately I find that if I copy an old plan to a new template plan , It works pretty good with some fixing of those things that weren't in the new version.

    Perry:

but then the client can't do any further editing to the plan

I can't imagine a client that owns chief wanting to be locked out from their own plan

most of our clients just wanted assistance with difficult parts rather than having us take over

I never have those kind of clients. They also never have Chief and I never let them touch my drawings, for any reasons. I give them a "PDF" and a movie to look at. I also have never helped anyone as I'm not in the training business.

    Perry:

we had many clients who had chief and needed assistance

we finally settled on a 3 version rule

it got real tedious trying to work on ver 9 or 10 plans when the current version was X3 or X4

Doug, The heavy bike ( @ 1,100 lbs. with full tank and me ) is great for touring. Even in gusty conditions it stays its course.
Ride out this way sometime !
