Thanks, I got everything but the stair rail correct. This is how I did it
1) Imported the material to my library and adjusted the color and size (named rail material).
2) Rail style tab - select > panel - and Newel/Baluster -panel type framed (if this isn't selected no railing shows.
3) Change the panel material to the new imported material (named rail material).
