    Creating a side entry landing

Would anybody have a fool proof way of creating a side entry landing as seen in the attached pics. It would technically be between the basement level and the main floor level with stairs adjoining.
    Thanks
    Steve

You need to create a landing "room" with invisible walls or invisible beams and lower the floor then attach the stairs as needed.

Walls to define the landing as a room. Invisible where needed. Stairwell to basement below is an "open below" room.

Thanks Gene, I just tried that, however, as much as it created the opening I need to create the stairs and landing, it also made my concrete basement floor disappear over the whole of the floor. Not just under the `opening`.
    Any ideas?
