Exposed Beams under sloped ceilings ???????
I am designing a house with a 10/12 pitch roof . I put a 7/12 pitch ceiling under this roof starting at the plate height. Basically like a scissors truss. I want to attach exposed sloped beams to the bottom of this ceiling. Now if you just do a roof you can frame in exposed roof beams under the roof. If you do a sloped ceiling you cannot frame in sloped ceiling beams under the ceiling to expose them. If you do a flat ceiling you can frame in beams under that flat ceiling. I know I can draw in polylines and convert them into beams but that could take a lot of time. I have octagon rooms with sloped ceilings that I would like to install small beams on the underside of all 8 hips. There must be an easier way.

Start your roof at the lower pitch, drawn in your beams. Lower the beams if needed.
Select the roof planes and change the pitch to the steeper slope.William Page Architects A.I.A.

Bill, I am not at office to verify, but suppose you had lower pitch, built rafters and hip, the selected all and CHECKED MANUAL HT., and then change to steeper pitch, build those beams, and then CHECKED MANUAL HT.......... would the beams (rafters and hips) stay in place if you had auto roof framing on........ just wondering.
